Redefining Workspace: FRAME China Office by ARCHSTUDIO

ARCHSTUDIO, in collaboration with FRAME magazine, embarked on a transformative journey to design the FRAME China Office, located in the vibrant Upperhills area of Futian CBD, Shenzhen. This innovative workspace not only serves as a hub for creativity but also embodies FRAME magazine’s commitment to aesthetic excellence and design innovation.

Embracing the FRAME Theme

Drawing inspiration from FRAME magazine’s ethos, the design team reimagined the space to reflect the essence of FRAME in every aspect — from its structure and form to its materiality. The result is a dynamic and inspiring environment that fosters creativity and facilitates meaningful interactions among employees and visitors.

Spatial Reinterpretation

With an original loft space boasting a ceiling height of 8.8 meters, ARCHSTUDIO capitalized on the transparency of the area to reconfigure the internal layout. The space was divided into a north-south split-level arrangement, comprising public areas, open office zones, and private offices. A triple-height atrium serves as a visual centerpiece, promoting connectivity and communication across different levels.

Innovative Design Elements

Central to the office’s design are the bookshelves and stairs surrounding the atrium, which serve as both functional elements and visual focal points. Crafted from reinforcing steel bars, these structures embody the theme of “FRAME” while enhancing spatial openness and visual continuity. A full-height LED screen on the wall showcases virtual video content, further blurring the boundaries between physical and virtual realms.

Materiality and Sustainability

The design embraces industrial materials such as steel, cement, and glass to express simplicity and authenticity. Customized furniture integrates reinforcing steel bar mesh with steel plates, seamlessly blending with the original concrete walls and self-leveling cement flooring. This minimalist approach not only enhances the office’s aesthetic appeal but also underscores its commitment to sustainability and longevity.

A Platform for International Collaboration

By establishing the FRAME China Office, ARCHSTUDIO and FRAME magazine have created a dynamic platform for international collaboration and innovation in the interior design industry. This milestone project not only elevates the profile of FRAME magazine but also showcases Chinese design excellence on the global stage, reinforcing Shenzhen’s reputation as a hub for creative excellence.
